The Ten Commandments of Self-Care

The Ten Commandments of Self-Care
by Valorie Burton

1. Use all of your vacation time every year.

2. Commit your time off solely to nonwork-related activities.

3. Take your rest seriously.

4. Have fun at least once a week.

5. Eat regularly, preferably sitting down.

6. Exercise regularly, preferably standing up.

7. Be fruitful and productive, not busy.

8. Use technology to gain time, not consume it.

9. Connect heart-to-heart with the people who matter.

10. Be led by the Spirit.

Perfect words.

I love the #7 Be fruitful and productive, not busy..

I feel that way now when I have to do my weekly cleaning/laundry for hours.. it is not a busy hasty chore.. but a productive peaceful way to keep my living environment serene with order and cleanliness..

The way you view things really do make tasks seem different and add value and serenity.

OH this is a great list, I love #10 especially (and being last I won't forget as quickly) :)

I had forgotten you were from Michigan. I hope that the next time I come up I can plan better and see some of my blog friends!

I would love that Jess!

Such simple concepts, yet not so easy to implement in our busy lives. I constantly have to be reminded to slow down...and be in the 'now'. Great reminders!

Exercise standing up..sheesh, that will make it a lot harder..LOL

Love them all, but #7 is my favorite. Sometimes it seems so difficult to achieve, but when I do, I am truly happy.

Wait. What? said...

Now this is something I need to work on living by!

I relate to 1-4 in a big way. Good things to think about.

I love the simplicity of these 10 commandments.

When I was working, I always used all my vacation time.

I would change only one of these - have fun more than once a week. :)

Thanks for this post,
PG

Vacation? Time off? What are these things that you speak of?

I needed these words...especially using technology to gain time. I think I immerse myself too much into surfing blogs. Thank you for a fresh perspective of my time. I've added you to my blogroll, because you are very inspirational.
Thank you,

Sounds extremely practical and do-able, and should be taught as a collage class!
